NTS AI Bible — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

NTS AI Bible ("the App") is a Scripture reading and AI-assisted Bible study app developed and published by Needham Tech Studio LLC (www.needhamtechstudio.com). This policy describes what information the App collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with.

1. Information We Collect

A. Account & profile information

  • Account credentials: email address and password, or your Google/Apple account identity if you sign in that way.
  • Profile details: display name, faith background, primary study goal, denomination, theological interests, and app preferences (translation, reading pace, text size, dark/light mode, app language).
  • Profile photo: an optional photo you upload.
  • Friend code: a unique code generated for your account so friends can connect with you privately.

B. Content you create

  • Reading activity: your last-read book/chapter, reading streaks, chapters read, and reading history — used to track progress and personalize recommendations.
  • Annotations: highlights, notes, and bookmarks you create on Bible passages, including any note text you write. You choose whether these are private or shared with friends.
  • Reading plans: the themes/preferences you provide to generate a plan, your progress through it, and any notes you leave for friends sharing the same plan.
  • Community posts & reactions: shared annotations or "started a reading plan" posts, and reactions (heart, pray, fire, amen) you leave on others' posts. These are visible only to your accepted friends, not the public internet.

C. AI conversations & personalization

When you chat with the AI companion ("Aletheia") or generate a devotional, study guide, sermon outline, or reading plan, your messages and requests are sent to Anthropic (maker of the Claude AI models) for processing. To personalize responses, we also include limited context such as your display name, faith background, stated interests, preferred translation, and recent reading history. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy for how they handle data sent through their API.

To keep costs sustainable, we also record daily AI usage per account (estimated cost, model used, and timestamps) so we can enforce a daily usage limit. This usage record does not include the content of your conversations.

D. Friends & social features

Your display name, profile photo, and friend code are visible to people you connect with. Friend requests, connections, and their status (pending/accepted) are stored so the App can manage your connections.

E. Device & notification data

  • Push notification tokens: a device-specific token used solely to deliver reminders (daily reading nudge, reading-plan reminders) and friend/plan-invite alerts you've opted into.
  • Notification preferences: which reminders you've enabled and at what times.

F. Automatically collected information

We keep basic server logs (request timestamps, endpoints accessed) for security and performance monitoring.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide Bible reading, translations, annotations, and reading-plan features.
  • To generate AI-assisted devotionals, study guides, sermon outlines, reading plans, and chat responses.
  • To personalize recommendations based on your stated goals, interests, and reading history.
  • To connect you with friends and display shared content in your Community feed.
  • To send reminders and alerts you've opted into.
  • To enforce fair-use AI limits and prevent abuse.
  • To maintain the security, integrity, and performance of the App.

3. How We Share Your Data

We do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only as necessary to operate the App:

  • Anthropic (Claude API): receives your messages and relevant profile context to generate AI responses. See section 1C above.
  • API.Bible: receives the book, chapter, and translation you request in order to fetch Scripture text. No personal or account information is sent with these requests.
  • Supabase: our backend provider for authentication, database storage, file storage (profile photos), and server-side functions.
  • Expo: delivers push notifications to your device (exp.host push service).
  • Firebase / Google: used for push notification delivery on Android devices, and for Google Sign-In if you choose that login method.
  • Apple: used for push notification delivery on iOS devices, and for Sign in with Apple if you choose that login method.
  • Accepted friends: your name, photo, shared annotations, reading-plan participation/progress, and plan notes are visible to friends you've connected with — never to the public.

4. Account & Data Deletion

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data yourself, at any time, directly within the App:

Profile → Appearance & account → Delete account → confirm.

This immediately and permanently deletes your profile, reading history and annotations, reading plans and progress, friend connections, community posts and reactions, uploaded profile photo, push notification token, and AI usage records. This cannot be undone.

If you're unable to access the App, you can instead email us at jneedham@needhamtechstudio.com from your account's email address and we will delete your account and data within 30 days.

5. Push Notifications

The App requests permission to send push notifications. You can turn individual reminders on/off from within the App, or revoke notification permission entirely in your device's system settings at any time. This won't affect your ability to use the rest of the App.

6. Your Rights

  • Access & correction: you can update your profile, preferences, and photo directly within the App at any time.
  • Deletion: delete your account and all associated data yourself from within the App — see Section 4 — or email us if you can't access the App.
  • Sharing controls: you choose whether each annotation or reading plan is private or shared, and who you connect with as a friend.

7. Children's Privacy

NTS AI Bible is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. International Visitors

If you use the App from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your location.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest changes.
